The Effects of Information Layout, Display Mode, and Gender Difference on the User Interface Design of Mobile Shopping Applications

Online shopping has revolutionized our daily lives in the modern era. We can purchase needed goods on mobile applications (apps) anytime and anywhere without leaving home. Especially during COVID-19 pandemic, we have become increasingly dependent various activities. However, visual design of app interface often affects user’s interactive experience efficiency browsing product information. In addition, gender differences are also worth being considered process. To achieve goal, research conducted a user study (N=40) $2\times $ 2 x mixed factorial (i.e., information layout display mode difference). Each participant performed four tasks experiment. The authors measured task completion time, collected subjective responses from SUS 7-point Likert scale questionnaire, interviewed participants. results revealed that: (1) females perform faster lighter when searching for location, while males darker mode. (2) search performance evaluation; prefer list style, but men matrix style. (3) Participants (both females) perceived style as more popular than dark mode; however, result was reversed light findings generated serve good reference development apps.
